China's top legislature has officially postponed the annual meeting of the parliament, which was scheduled to begin on March 5, state television reported today, amid an outbreak of the coronavirus that has infected more than 70,000 people in the country.

The new date for the meetings, which usually lasts 10 days, will be set later, the report said, adding that the meeting will not be delayed long.

It is the first time since the current March schedule was adopted in 1995 that the meeting of the parliament has been postponed.
