French unemployment dropped unexpectedly at the end of last year to its lowest level for 11 years, boosting the economic front for the president Emmanuel Macron.

Unemployment rate fell to 8.1% int last quarter of 2019 from 8.5% in the third quarter, after revised down from 8.6%.

This big drop is a welcome development for Macron after weeks of strikes as unions put up resistance to his planned overhaul of the state pension system.
