Federal Open Market Committee member Mary C. Daly has indicated that the US labour market will not improve until the end of the coronavirus pandemic. Her key statements were:

  • The current situation does not call for new expansionary measures.
  • Current monetary policy will continue for the longest period possible until inflation stabilises around 2% and employment rises.
  • Interest rates are now in line with the current conditions.
  • The Fed will take all measures if necessary.
  • The time period in which inflation averages 2% depends on economic conditions
