Could the Federal Reserve’s proposed stablecoin rules fuel Solana’s appreciation?
Solana closed with a marginal appreciation of 1.84%, trading at $117.07 following a proposal from the Federal Reserve to enhance regulatory rules for token issuers.
According to a Reuters report, the Federal Reserve has proposed new rules for stablecoin issuers as part of the implementation of the GENIUS Act. The proposal would require issuers under the Fed's supervision to back their stablecoins fully with eligible reserve assets, including short-term US Treasury securities, while also meeting capital and risk-management requirements. Notably, the Fed is currently allowing a 60-day period for public comments, meaning that the proposal could still be modified before the rules are finalised.
These rules and requirements are focused on diminishing credit and operational risks, thereby seeking to foster greater confidence amongst investors interested in tokenised assets.
While these regulatory factors are not directly related to altcoins, developments of this nature tend to bolster confidence across the crypto market environment, as the bridge between digital assets and traditional finance continues to narrow.
Technical analysis of Solana
From a technical perspective, while Solana previously established a distinct bearish trajectory, the asset is currently signalling meaningful bullish momentum. A detailed examination of the current market structure reveals the following key dynamics:
- Trend Context: On daily timeframes, Solana is trading comfortably above its 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day Simple Moving Averages (SMAs), suggesting that short-term bullish momentum is solidifying. In turn, over the last three months, price action has been structuring a pattern of higher highs and higher lows, representing a prominent price recovery compared to the prolonged downward structure previously maintained.
- Resistance Levels: Should price action breach short-term resistance at $124.50, the next major technical barrier lies at $145. A decisive close above these levels would increase the probability of expansion towards higher market capitalisation levels.
- Support Levels: In a scenario of market retracement, two relevant support levels are situated at $97 and $86—two subsequent floors where a key pivot point and the 200-day SMA stand. A sustained breakdown below these levels would likely increase the risk of a deeper market correction.
- Momentum Indicators: Both the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) and the Relative Strength Index (RSI) are exhibiting an upward trajectory, signalling that short-term bullish momentum could continue. Nevertheless, the RSI is nearing overbought territory, while the MACD is still structuring a bearish divergence, suggesting caution regarding the sustainability of the upward trajectory.
